Despite many setbacks, Polly's "gladness" game just might thaw the townsfolk and her aunt. Begins as Polly returns to Harrington, Alabama, to rejoin her rich aunt. Although she can walk again, Polly finds harmony in short supply as the town adjusts to a new orphanage director and election unrest. Polly Whittier moved to the boring and segregated town of Harrington, Alabama to live with her spinster aunt Polly. Along with her new friends, Polly brings optimism and integration to the town. In the sequel, Polly and her friends play matchmaker for Aunt Polly and a handsome music professor.

Broadway style songs are used to tell this interesting story of an ingenious orphan who gets involved in matchmaking and striving for inter-racial understanding in 1956 Alabama.
